West Bengal politics is witnessing a high-stakes battle between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, a rivalry rooted in rebellion, betrayal, and unfinished political business.

The two former allies, once part of the Trinamool Congress, have transformed into bitter rivals since Adhikari's dramatic shift to the BJP in 2020.

Their epic battle is centered around Nandigram, where Adhikari defeated Banerjee in 2021, one of the biggest symbolic upsets in Bengal politics.

As the 2026 Assembly elections approach, Adhikari has taken the fight directly to Banerjee's urban bastion – Bhabanipur – making the constituency one of the most watched contests in the state.

Mamata Banerjee has returned to her familiar campaign style, positioning herself as Bengal's protector against external political interference and electoral manipulation.

Adhikari, meanwhile, has framed the election as a battle for political change, leveraging his 2021 victory as proof that Banerjee's dominance can be challenged.
