Three people, including a 22-year-old man and two women, were killed in a massive fire that broke out in a southeast Delhi residential building early Friday morning. Two others remain critical.

The blaze erupted in the parking area of the five-storey building in Tughlakabad around 2:30 am, trapping eight residents inside due to heavy smoke.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, with local police and firefighters rushing to the scene. Four fire tenders, CATS ambulances, and other emergency response units were pressed into service.

Initial inquiry revealed that the fire appeared to have started due to an electrical short circuit on the ground floor, which quickly engulfed seven parked two-wheelers, including an electric scooter that was being charged.

DFS officials said the thick smoke rapidly spread through the building's stairwell and upper floors, trapping several residents inside. Firefighters rescued five occupants from inside the building and shifted them to nearby hospitals through CATS ambulances.

The blaze was brought under control around 3:45 am and completely doused by 4 am.
