A 19-month-old child was admitted to a private hospital in a critical condition after accidentally ingesting mosquito-repellent liquid from a refill bottle.
The child developed severe respiratory issues, including chemical pneumonitis, aspiration pneumonia, and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), and required prolonged intensive care.
Under the supervision of Dr. Dhiren Gupta and the PICU team, aggressive multidisciplinary intensive care and advanced rescue strategies were used to support the child's lungs and circulation.
Thanks to continuous care, innovative supportive measures, and the family's trust, the child made a remarkable recovery and was discharged in stable condition.
The incident highlights the importance of checking mosquito-repellent refill packs and adapters carefully before use and keeping household insecticides and mosquito-repellent products out of children's reach.
