Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress party for leaving the country in a state of 'helplessness, destitution and inferiority complex' due to sluggish economic growth when it was in power from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Modi said the country's growth picked up pace only when the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government came into power.

The Prime Minister said the country's vast Hindu population was blamed for the slow growth rate, which he called the 'Congress growth rate.'

Modi alleged that Congress dragged the country into multi-crore-rupee scams and said India has made massive progress on the manufacturing front and has undertaken significant work for farmers and specially abled people over the last 12 years.

The Prime Minister asked that if so much could be achieved in 12 years, why it did not happen over the preceding decades.
