Railway officials have issued a notice to the Ganj Shaheeda mosque near Kashi station, demanding it vacate the premises by June 20 for expansion works. However, the mosque's managing body has termed the notice 'illegal' and plans to challenge it in court.
Station Superintendent Arpit Gupta stated that the land around Kashi Railway Station needs to be cleared of encroachments for the proposed construction works. The mosque's secretary, Mohammad Yasin, alleged that the Railways notice was invalid and an attempt to disturb law and order.
The mosque's managing body claims to possess a map dating back to 1980 that clearly marks the mosque's location, and that the Railways did not exist at the site at that time.
