In a shocking medical scandal, the Madhya Pradesh government has launched an urgent probe into the HIV infections of six children, aged 12 to 15, who were being treated for thalassemia at various district hospitals. The children, who received regular blood transfusions, were found to be HIV positive during routine testing between January and May this year. What's more alarming is that the parents of one of the infected children have also tested positive. The six-member investigation committee, headed by Dr. Satya Avadhiya, regional director of the Public Health and Medical Education Department, has been tasked with submitting a detailed report within seven days. The panel will examine whether the blood transfusions were contaminated and if they took place at any other hospital besides the government-run facilities. The committee members include experts from the State Blood Transfusion Council, AIIMS Bhopal, and the Food and Drug Administration. The investigation is expected to shed light on the cause of the HIV infections and ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future. The Madhya Pradesh government's swift action in forming the probe committee reflects its commitment to addressing the medical crisis and providing justice to the affected families.
