Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's son, Nishant Kumar, has formally joined the Janata Dal (United) in Patna, marking the beginning of his political journey. This move comes as Nitish Kumar is set to move to the Rajya Sabha, vacating the CM's chair, which is expected to be taken over by the BJP.
Nishant, an engineering graduate in his 40s, has been in talks with senior JD(U) leaders and young MLAs ahead of his induction. He is reportedly set to take on greater responsibilities within the party, with some speculating that he may become the next Deputy CM of Bihar.
Party insiders believe that Nishant's decision to join the JD(U) will help alleviate concerns about Nitish Kumar's health and his decision to move to the Rajya Sabha. With his father's unblemished track record and his own simplicity, humility, and education, Nishant is expected to be a strong candidate for the Deputy CM role.
While some legislators have denied reports of Nishant becoming the Deputy CM, party spokesman Neeraj Kumar has described him as a "different prospect" for the JD(U) and Bihar. With Nitish Kumar's guidance, Nishant is expected to get a feel for the state and its politics, helping to allay concerns about his father's departure for the Rajya Sabha.
