Odisha Braces for Prolonged Cold Wave; IMD Warns of Dense Fog

A biting cold wave continues to grip Odisha, with the mercury plummeting to below 10 degrees Celsius in 11 locations across the state. Koraput town recorded the lowest temperature at 4.8 degrees Celsius, while Semiliguda in Koraput district experienced a night temperature of 6.3 degrees Celsius. Daringbadi in Kandhamal district followed closely with a minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius. Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the state's capital and second-largest city, recorded temperatures of 14.6 degrees C and 12.8 degrees C, respectively, on Thursday night. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cold conditions are expected to persist over the next four days, with a gradual rise in night temperatures thereafter. The IMD has also forecast shallow to moderate fog in isolated pockets across several districts for the next five days. A 'yellow warning' has been issued for Kandhamal, Koraput, Kalahandi, and Nayagarh districts for Saturday morning, with dense fog expected in these areas. Similar warnings have been issued for other districts, including Khurda, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur, for December 29 and 30. The IMD has also predicted dense fog in Balasore and Gajapati districts on December 31.
