Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a groundbreaking free education policy, making education from kindergarten to postgraduate levels completely free in all government schools and colleges.

The decision aims to strengthen the foundation of the state's youth and contribute to long-term development, particularly benefiting students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Odisha is poised to become the first state in India to implement such a comprehensive free education policy, with 25 state universities and other universities under the state government's administrative control.

The state has already implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and launched an ambitious plan to establish Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Primary Schools in every panchayat, with foundation stones laid for 322 schools in the first phase.

The government also plans to recruit an additional 45,000 teachers over the next three years, in addition to the 26,615 teaching and non-teaching staff already appointed.
