Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has suspended four senior officials of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and initiated disciplinary proceedings against six others over mistakes found in school textbooks.
The inquiry committee, headed by development commissioner D.K. Singh, found over 1,700 errors in textbooks prescribed for Classes 1 to 8 for the 2026–27 academic session.
The government has accepted all 14 recommendations made by the inquiry committee, including the creation of a Master Errata Register and the establishment of a dedicated Quality Assurance Cell within SCERT.
The reforms aim to improve academic standards and ensure greater accountability in textbook preparation.
The mistakes, which included spelling errors and factual inaccuracies, raised questions about the vetting and quality-control mechanisms involved in the preparation of the textbooks.
