Bhubaneswar, Odisha - Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo has urged farmers, scientists, and stakeholders to adopt climate-resilient and natural farming techniques to ensure the long-term health of India's soil. Speaking at the state-level celebration of World Soil Day, under the theme 'Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities,' Singh Deo emphasized the crucial role of healthy soil in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development. He appealed to farmers to reduce chemical inputs, promote organic matter, and adopt natural farming practices to preserve soil fertility for future generations. At the event, experts discussed sustainable soil management, natural farming, and urban gardening. Soil Health Cards were distributed to farmers to promote scientific soil nutrient management. The initiative aims to empower cultivators with precise knowledge of their soil's nutrient status, enabling them to make informed decisions about balanced fertilizer use. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also highlighted the importance of preserving soil quality and safety, saying, 'Soil is the cornerstone of our life, and its preservation is essential for a healthy environment and future generations.' The state government has made efforts to bridge knowledge gaps and strengthen soil testing facilities across the state. The celebration included the inauguration of a manual on agricultural production technology and a video on World Soil Day, which aims to raise awareness about the significance of soil health in urban spaces.
