As millions of devotees and revelers prepare to welcome the New Year, Odisha's Puri and Bhubaneswar are gearing up with unprecedented security arrangements. In Puri, over 3.5-4 lakh people are expected to flock to the revered Jagannath temple, prompting the Odisha Police to deploy a massive force of 60 platoons, comprising 1,800 personnel, under a specialized command structure. The police have set up CCTV surveillance, control rooms, and a robust crowd-regulation system to maintain order. In Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police is taking no chances, with 15 platoons of police force, including dedicated units for traffic management and law and order, to be deployed. The administration has also implemented strict traffic diversions, designated parking zones, and enhanced security measures at bars and restaurants. Police officials stress that women's safety will be a top priority during late-night hours. To facilitate a smooth celebration, the local administration in Puri has also ensured proper water supply and hygiene, while the Bhubaneswar police have warned of strict action against drunken drivers. As the city prepares for the Zero Night celebration, the police commissioner has issued an advisory for public and party organizers, emphasizing the importance of adhering to stipulated time limits and prioritizing women's safety.
