Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in Jordan on a two-day diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening the country's bilateral ties with the Arab nation, marking a significant milestone in their 75-year diplomatic relationship. Modi's visit, the first full-fledged bilateral trip by an Indian prime minister in 37 years, follows a transit visit in 2018. Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was received by Jordan's Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and will soon meet King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein for a crucial one-on-one meeting, followed by delegation-level talks. On Tuesday, Modi will address a business event, which will bring together leading entrepreneurs from both countries. The visit is part of Modi's four-day, three-nation tour, which will also take him to Ethiopia and Oman. During his stay in Jordan, he will interact with the local Indian community, weather permitting, and visit the historic city of Petra alongside the Crown Prince. This visit comes at a time when India and Jordan enjoy strong economic ties, with New Delhi being Jordan's third-largest trading partner and bilateral trade valued at USD 2.8 billion. Jordan is a significant supplier of fertilizers to India, particularly phosphates and potash, and is home to a vibrant Indian diaspora of over 17,500 people. The visit is expected to further boost economic cooperation and strengthen the bond between the two nations.
