A 40-year-old man in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district was tragically shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in a brazen attack on Thursday night. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the murder is linked to a financial dispute. The victim, identified as Baljit Singh alias Billa, succumbed to his injuries after being fired at multiple times in Adda Kaloya's Tanda area. Police swiftly formed a team to track down the perpetrators and, following human and technical intelligence, identified the suspects. On Friday evening, police apprehended one of the accused, Lakhwinder Singh alias Maninder Saini, after he attempted to flee a police checkpoint near Chotala village. The accused allegedly fired at the police team, prompting a response that left him with a bullet injury in his leg. He is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Lakhwinder has a history of run-ins with the law, with three cases registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. A country-made .30 bore pistol, along with live and used cartridges, was recovered from the scene. Police are confident that they will soon apprehend the second suspect, who remains at large. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case unfolds.
