In a swift operation, Punjab police arrested three members of a gang involved in robberies after a brief exchange of fire in the Garhshankar area of Hoshiarpur on Saturday. The accused, identified as Onkar Singh alias Gora, Ram Asra alias Shami, and Armaan alias Gonga, were part of a gang that struck a money exchange shop in Mahilpur on December 16, making off with over ₹4 lakh. During an earlier investigation, Dilawar Singh alias Zora was arrested, leading police to believe the remaining gang members were planning another heist. On Saturday, while on routine patrol in the Bilron village, police spotted a suspicious motorcycle without a number plate. When signalled to stop, the occupants opened fire, prompting police to retaliate with warning shots. The accused fired again, hitting a police vehicle and a bulletproof jacket. Onkar Singh, the gang leader, sustained a bullet injury in his leg and was arrested. The other two accused were taken into custody as well. Police recovered a motorcycle without a number plate and three illegal weapons along with live and used cartridges. Preliminary questioning revealed the gang's involvement in another robbery at a shop in Chohal village, where ₹15,000-20,000 was looted. Onkar Singh has a history of crime, with two cases registered against him, including one under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further investigation is underway to verify the backgrounds of the other accused.
