In a bid to alleviate travel woes caused by IndiGo's mass flight cancellations, the Railways has announced 89 special trains across all zones, operating from Saturday to Monday. These trains, set to make over 100 trips, were arranged in record time after analyzing train traffic in major cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru. To ensure smooth operations, all zones have been instructed to utilize available resources, including rolling stock and manpower. The number of special trains may increase depending on the traffic scenario, said Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information & Publicity, Railway Board. To inform stranded passengers, officials have disseminated information at nearby airports, while some divisions have even displayed details at airports. Western Railway will operate seven special trains on a special fare between key stations, while South Central Railway has announced four special trains to manage the surge in passengers. Central Railway and Northern Railway have planned 14 and 10 special trains respectively, and officials are reviewing the numbers to meet any rising requirements. For at least five days, IndiGo flight operations have been significantly disrupted, causing hardships to thousands of passengers and resulting in misplaced baggage.
