A constable in Rajasthan has been suspended after a momo seller suffered severe burns when boiling water spilled on her during a police action to remove street vendors in Jaipur.

The incident occurred on June 19 on Mahal Road in Jagatpura, and the woman, Reshu Gupta, was hospitalized with burns on her arms, chest, stomach, and thighs.

The state government has announced that it will bear the cost of the victim's treatment and extend financial assistance to help rehabilitate the family's livelihood.

The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and sought factual reports from the authorities.

The Opposition has kept up pressure on the government over the incident, with Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully visiting the victim at her residence.
