Kottayam: Former TDB administrative officer Murari Babu, accused in the Sabarimala gold loss case, passed away at 54. He had been undergoing cancer treatment for three months before his death at Amrita Hospital in Kochi.

Murari Babu was arrested last year in connection with the alleged gold loss from the Dwarapalaka idol plates and Sreekovil doorframes at the hill shrine while serving as a Travancore Devaswom Board official.

He was granted statutory bail in January after 90 days had elapsed since his arrest, but was booked on charges of conspiracy related to the alleged gold loss.

Murari Babu had a long career in the Travancore Devaswom Board, serving in various capacities, including as Deputy Devaswom Commissioner in Haripad.
