Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has denied claims of a two-and-a-half-year power-sharing arrangement within the state government, amidst a succession debate that has resurfaced. The controversy began when Opposition BJP MLAs questioned the Congress government's commitment to fulfill promises made for North Karnataka's development during Siddaramaiah's tenure. Siddaramaiah assured the assembly that he is confident of completing his five-year term, attributing his current position to the support of the Congress high command. However, when pressed on the alleged power-sharing agreement between him and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, he denied making any such commitment. Hours later, Shivakumar clarified that he never confirmed a rotational leadership arrangement, and that Siddaramaiah's position as CM is sanctioned by the party's decision. Shivakumar stated that both he and Siddaramaiah have reached an agreement, facilitated by the high command, to abide by a mutually decided understanding. The succession debate gained momentum after the Congress government completed its midpoint in November, reviving speculation about a power-sharing understanding said to have been reached between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar in 2023. When questioned about the CM change talks, Shivakumar emphasized that there is no internal discussion on the matter and that they will abide by the party's decision.
