Former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly has rejected claims that he acted as an emissary for the Trinamool Congress to ask Yusuf Pathan to vacate his Lok Sabha seat.
Ganguly issued a statement denying the allegations, stating that he was never requested by Mamata Banerjee to convey any message to Pathan.
The report surfaced amid speculation over how Banerjee might return to electoral office after the TMC's defeat in the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections.
The party faces one of its gravest crises in its three-decade history, with 58 of its 80 MLAs rebelling and the assembly speaker recognising an expelled legislator as the Leader of the Opposition.
