A consumer commission in Srinagar has directed SpiceJet to refund airfare and pay compensation totalling more than ₹62,000 to a couple who were allegedly denied boarding despite holding valid boarding passes while returning from the Hajj pilgrimage last year.

The couple, Ghulam Nabi Fafoo and his wife Raja Begum, were forced to spend the night at Delhi airport after being denied boarding on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Srinagar on July 8, 2024.

They had to purchase fresh tickets on an IndiGo flight the following morning at a higher fare of ₹13,450, incurring additional expenses.

The commission held SpiceJet liable for being deficient in service and adopting unfair trade practices towards the couple, who suffered immense mental pain, agony, harassment, and financial loss.
