The Supreme Court has rejected Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan's plea challenging the rejection of her Rajya Sabha candidature in Madhya Pradesh.
The top court noted that it is mandatory to disclose all pending criminal cases, at whatever stage they may be, and that the Returning Officer has not committed any error in rejecting her nomination.
The court also said that once a nomination is rejected, the only remedy is to approach the poll panel, and that it is not inclined to interfere in cases of cancellation of nomination papers.
Natarajan's nomination was rejected after the BJP alleged that her nomination papers concealed information on summons by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Hyderabad.
The Congress argued that Natarajan had no pending cases, but the ECI counsel argued that her nomination rejection was justified.
The cancellation of Natarajan's nomination means all three BJP candidates from Madhya Pradesh can go through to the Rajya Sabha.
