Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the Air India AI-171 crash, marked the first anniversary of the tragedy by revealing the emotional toll he's faced since surviving the disaster.

While the world celebrated his survival, Kumar struggled with sleepless nights, anxiety, and memories that refused to fade.

The June 12, 2025 crash near Ahmedabad lasted only seconds, but its impact on Kumar has lasted every day since.

He recounted waking up amid wreckage and bodies before scrambling to safety, and described the loss of his brother Ajay as the deepest wound left by the tragedy.

Kumar has spoken of feeling isolated, withdrawing from public life, and finding it difficult to move beyond the events of that afternoon.

The disaster also brought financial strain, with Kumar and his brother having invested much of their savings in a fishing business in India.

As India marks one year since the crash of Air India flight AI-171, investigators prepare to release a status update on the probe into the accident.
