Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai has parted ways with the party, citing a 'great conflict' between his national and regional identities. Hours after his resignation was accepted, Annamalai announced a new political movement that will evolve into a party to contest the next assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Aannamalai listed the reasons for his exit, stating that he had informed the BJP leadership of his decision in December last year but was asked to wait till the 2026 assembly elections were over.
He emphasized his connection with his Tamil roots, saying that he was a nationalist deeply rooted in regional aspirations and that a strong and united India is built upon the strength, dignity and aspirations of its many regions and communities.
Aannamalai also expressed his disagreements with the leadership over the past 18 months and said that he doesn't think his views align with the party anymore.
He announced that his new political movement will aim to play common man politics and gather skillful persons to join the movement, which will become a political party in the coming days.
