Tamil Nadu's draft voter roll has been released, following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) that has resulted in the removal of over 97 lakh voters. The deletions were made due to various reasons such as migration, death, and duplication of enrollments. According to the data provided by the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer, nearly 66.4 lakh voters were removed for migrating, 26.9 lakh were found deceased, and 3.98 lakh were found enrolled in multiple places. The electoral office reported that enumeration forms were collected from over 5.43 crore voters, representing 84.81% of the state's total voters. As of December 19, 2025, 5.43 crore electors had submitted their Enumeration Forms, indicating a high level of participation in the first phase of SIR. Gujarat also released its draft voter list on Friday, with over 73.7 lakh deletions. The deletions in Gujarat included 18.07 lakh voters found deceased, 51.86 lakh marked as shifted/absent, and 3.81 lakh found enrolled in multiple places. The claims and objections period for genuine voters to be added to the revised list will close on January 18, 2026. "Genuine electors can still be added back in electoral rolls during the Claims and Objection period from December 19, 2025, to January 18, 2026," the office said. The release of the draft voter rolls in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat comes days after the Election Commission of India published draft electoral rolls in five states and two Union Territories, including West Bengal, Rajasthan, Goa, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep.
