Tamil Nadu has announced a ₹15,032 crore plan to establish 231 new substations and address the state's power woes.

The move comes in the wake of frequent power cuts that have plagued the state, with the government attributing the issue to ageing distribution transformers, underground cable faults, and increased electricity consumption.

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has directed officials to take immediate action on complaints regarding power faults and rectify them promptly, while also ordering the recruitment of 15,058 electricity workers to address power supply-related issues.

The government has also planned to implement infrastructure development projects worth ₹2,275 crore in Chennai alone to find a permanent solution to the issues.

With electricity demand expected to reach 23,013 MW in 2026-27, the plan aims to provide quality, reliable, and uninterrupted electricity to the people.
