A 75-year-old businessman from Thane in Maharashtra was allegedly cheated of ₹56.2 lakh by a self-styled healer and his associate.
The accused had been supplying medicines to the victim through courier from November last year, but the victim did not experience any improvement in his health.
The accused later forced the victim to consume a medicine mixed with herbal substances and threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to pay the ₹56 lakh treatment cost.
The victim paid ₹20,000 in cash and transferred various amounts in instalments, but the accused continued demanding more money.
A case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
