The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is facing an unprecedented internal crisis, with senior leaders resigning and rebel camps emerging among both MLAs and MPs.
Rebel MLAs have staked their claim as the principal Opposition bloc in the West Bengal Assembly, while a separate faction has emerged among TMC MPs, with several high-profile leaders joining the dissident group.
Notable names among the rebels include Jadavpur MP Saayoni Ghosh, Kolkata Dakshin MP Mala Roy, and several others.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev has resigned, and senior TMC leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray has criticized the party's performance in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections.
The internal rift has also sparked speculation about a possible merger between the TMC and the Congress, but the Congress has dismissed reports of any merger.
Additionally, TMC leader Firhad Hakim has resigned as the head of the Kolkata municipal corporation, and another leader, Jahangir Khan, has been arrested in connection with an extortion case.
