The Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, is facing a severe crisis with several MPs and MLAs forming rebel camps, mayors stepping down, and speculation of a merger with the Congress.

Leaders have cited corruption and the 'arrogant' behavior of Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata's nephew, as reasons for their rebellion.

Recent resignations include Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, and Prakash Chik Baraik, with more expected in the coming days.

The party is also facing a split in the Bengal assembly, with 58 lawmakers backing rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee, and cracks in Parliament with MP Kakoli Ghosh offering support to the National Democratic Alliance.

Mamata Banerjee met Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday, fueling speculation of a possible merger with the Congress, but the party has denied any such plans.

Talks of a merger are 'baseless,' according to people familiar with the matter, and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has described the speculation as 'completely inaccurate.'
