Furious over being dropped from a signature forgery case, veteran Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee launched a blistering attack on party chief Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
Banerjee, a senior lawyer, declared that he would no longer represent Abhishek Banerjee in court and threatened to chart his own political course if the party continues to tolerate the younger leader's allegedly disrespectful style of functioning.
The four-term Serampore MP accused Abhishek Banerjee of destroying the party and asked Mamata Banerjee to choose between him and her nephew.
Banerjee's outburst comes at a time when the TMC is reeling from an internal rebellion following its debacle in the recent state assembly elections.
The immediate trigger for the veteran leader's tongue lashing was a late-night text message informing him that he had been replaced in the high-profile signature forgery case.
Banerjee said he has been practicing law for 45 years and was humiliated by being replaced by a junior advocate.
He also accused Abhishek Banerjee of disrespecting everyone and said he can't work with him.
