Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev has resigned from the Upper House, further damaging the party's strength in Parliament. Her resignation comes two days after fellow lawmaker Sukhendu Sekhar Roy quit.
Dev's resignation was accepted by Rajya Sabha chairman CP Radhakrishnan, and she cited it as her personal decision to leave the party.
Dev, who joined the TMC from the Congress in 2021, had been a Rajya Sabha member for two terms and had four more years in the Upper House. She has expressed her desire to be a 'free woman' and has not spoken against party leader Mamata Banerjee.
Dev's resignation will pave the way for by-elections in the Upper House, with the BJP set to win both seats.
