Trinamool Congress leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray has resigned from the Rajya Sabha and quit the party, bringing an end to his long association with the TMC. In his resignation letter, Ray cited the people of West Bengal's decisive mandate in favour of the BJP, ending the TMC's 15-year rule in the state.

Ray alleged that the TMC government was marked by widespread corruption, atrocities against women, and abysmal failures in health, education, and law and order. He contrasted this with the newly elected administration, stating that it has started taking initiatives for overall development and reconstruction of West Bengal.

Ray's resignation comes as the TMC grapples with growing internal dissent, following its loss to the BJP in West Bengal. The party has been hit by a series of setbacks, including the recognition of 58 rebel TMC legislators as the principal opposition group.

Earlier, TMC's Ajmal Siddiqui announced his resignation from the party, citing the party's internal functioning and the influence of its leadership. He accused TMC Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee of having a "dictatorial attitude" and bringing "disrepute" to the party.
