The Tamil Nadu government has appointed Venkata Narayana K as its special representative at New Delhi for a year, sparking a row among the opposition.
The appointment, announced by state chief secretary M Sai Kumar, has raised eyebrows as Narayana is from Karnataka, a state with which Tamil Nadu has a contentious relationship over the Mekedatu dam issue.
DMK deputy general secretary 'Tiruchi' Siva questioned whether Narayana would represent Tamil Nadu's interests in the Mekedatu dam issue, given the state government's stance against the dam's construction.
BJP state chief Nainar Nagendhran also expressed surprise at the appointment, citing Narayana's lack of connection to Tamil Nadu.
