Ujjwal Nikam, a government lawyer known for handling high-profile cases, has been appointed as Special Public Prosecutor in the Ketan Agarwal murder case.

The 22-year-old man was killed allegedly by his fiancée Siya Goyal and her lover Chetan Chaudhary in Pune.

Nikam accepted the responsibility following a request from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the victim's family.

The police investigation is currently underway, and Nikam said he will only be able to disclose the status of the investigation once the charge sheet has been filed.

The government has approved the demand for setting up a fast-track court besides appointing Nikam as the public prosecutor.

Ketan Agarwal died on June 18 after falling from Lohagad Fort near Pune, but police are investigating it as a suspected murder case.

Nikam has served as a public prosecutor in several high-profile criminal and terrorism cases, including the 1993 Bombay bombings and the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
