A Delhi court has issued a notice to the Delhi Police in fresh bail applications filed by Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, who are seeking bail in the Delhi riots larger conspiracy case.

The court has listed the hearing of arguments for July 4 and cited a change in circumstances, highlighting a recent Supreme Court judgment that granted bail to Jammu and Kashmir resident Syed Iftikhar Andrabi in a narco-terror case.

Khalid and Imam have been in custody for over five years and six years, respectively, with the trial yet to progress even to framing of charge. They argue that prolonged incarceration and delay in trial can override statutory restrictions on bail under Section 43D(5) of the UAPA.
