UP Govt Rolls Out Emergency Relief Measures Amid Cold Wave

As a severe cold wave grips Uttar Pradesh, the state government has launched an extensive relief effort to protect its citizens. Night shelters, bonfires, and blanket distribution are among the key initiatives underway.The state has established 1,247 night shelters, providing warmth and comfort to 9,949 people in need. District administrations have been instructed to maintain cleanliness, provide hot water, ensure proper lighting, and ensure security at these shelters.Blanket distribution is also a top priority, with the state purchasing over 10.65 lakh blankets at an average cost of ₹44.38 crore over the past three years. So far, 1.40 lakh blankets have been distributed, and efforts are underway to distribute the remaining ones.A total of ₹17.55 crore has been allocated for blanket distribution, with ₹1.75 crore set aside for lighting bonfires at public places. The state is also leveraging technology to prevent accidents caused by fog, sending 33.27 crore alert messages to officials and the general public through the Sachet app and web portal. District magistrates and police are being informed via email about fog-related updates, ensuring a coordinated response to the crisis.
