The US War Department has notified Congress of a proposed $428 million sale of defence articles and sustainment services to India, aimed at supporting the country's Apache helicopters and M777A2 Howitzers.

The services include logistics support, personnel training, contractor engineering, spares, and repairs for the two platforms.

The sale is expected to strengthen the US-Indian strategic relationship and improve India's ability to meet current and future threats, while affirming that the sale would not alter the basic military balance in the region.

This proposed sale is part of a series of defence sales to India, which reflect continued progress in the bilateral security partnership despite broader India-US tensions.
