Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has criticized the United States over the deaths of Indian crew members in an Oman strike, questioning Washington's response and calling it 'deeply shocking'.
Tharoor questioned why alternative methods were not used to stop the vessel involved, asking if it was not possible to disable a ship's propulsion or steering without firing missiles targeted to kill civilian crew members.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also raised the issue with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing the 'lethal' actions by the US military against commercial shipping as unjustified.
Three Indian crew members were killed in the strike, and the incidents have sparked concern over the safety of Indian seafarers in the strategically important waters.
