US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar that all commercial vessels must comply with US orders in the Strait of Hormuz.

Rubio warned that violations of the US blockade and illicit transport of Iranian oil will not be tolerated.

The warning comes days after three Indian mariners were killed in a US military strike on a merchant vessel in the Gulf of Oman.

Jaishankar raised the issue during a telephonic conversation with Rubio, who is currently on a visit to Europe.

India had lodged a strong protest with the US over the attacks, which also injured several other crew members.
