An 18-year-old Dalit teen was beaten to death in Uttarakhand's Tehri Garhwal district after befriending a girl from an upper caste community.
The victim, Ketan Lal, had been friends with the girl for six months and was attacked by her family members along with his friend Diwakar Dimri.
Ketan's father received a call from the girl's father asking him to pick up his son, but upon reaching the location, he found Ketan covered in blood and rushed him to a hospital, where he couldn't be saved.
A case has been registered under the charge of murder and Section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and one person has been detained for questioning.
This incident sparks outrage over caste tensions in the region, with similar incidents reported in the past, including the murder of a Dalit teen in Greater Noida and a 38-year-old Dalit man in UP's Rae Bareli district.
