West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has ordered an audit of building plans sanctioned in Kolkata before the BJP came to power in May, following a warehouse collapse that killed eight people and injured 20.

A rescue and search operation is ongoing at the collapse site in Taratala, with the Army, NDRF, police, civil defence, and fire brigade working together.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the collapse, and police have booked them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Adhikari has directed the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to audit all building plans passed by the previous civic board, particularly those for commercial buildings and those constructed after filling wetlands.

Construction work has been suspended until July 31, and cleared projects can resume from August 1.
