West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced plans to introduce strict laws against 'love jihad', 'land jihad', and forceful religious conversion in the state. Adhikari also stated that the government will table the Uniform Civil Code in the House soon.

The BJP government in West Bengal aims to implement the Uniform Civil Code, which has been a key promise in its poll manifesto ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. Adhikari assured the public that the government will follow the necessary procedure, including setting up a committee headed by a sitting judge, as seen in Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Assam.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government's efforts to strengthen national security, including transferring land to the Border Security Force (BSF) and building holding centres in border districts. Additionally, Adhikari made singing of 'Vande Mataram' mandatory during assembly prayers in all state-run schools and madrasas.

However, TMC MP Mahua Moitra criticized the BJP government's proposed Uniform Civil Code, accusing them of trying to 'uproot' the Opposition through intimidation and divisive policies.
