A four-month-old infant was taken by a wolf in the Kaiserganj area of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday morning, prompting an extensive search operation by forest teams and villagers. The child and the predator remain unaccounted for, officials said. According to eyewitnesses, the wolf entered a house around 1:30 am, grabbed the infant from his mother's arms, and fled. Villagers chased the animal but failed to catch it. This incident is the latest in a series of wolf attacks that have gripped the village with fear. Over the past nine days, the village of Mallahanpurwa has witnessed three wolf attacks, including the death of a five-year-old boy on November 28 and the injury of a five-year-old girl on December 5. The Bahraich district has been plagued by wolf attacks since September 9, with eight children and an elderly couple losing their lives. The Forest Department has confirmed that 32 people have been injured in these attacks. In response to the crisis, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the safe capture of the wolf, with the option to shoot it if necessary. Rescue specialists and shooters have been deployed from other districts and states, resulting in the killing of four wolves since September 28. The search operation, which involves drone-assisted combing and a team of trained shooters, is ongoing. Officials are searching riverbanks, sugarcane fields, and other locations where wolf sightings have been reported. The fate of the missing infant remains unknown, and the villagers are on edge, fearing another wolf attack.
