Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has cracked down on illegal immigrants in the state, directing district magistrates to identify and take action against them. In a statement, officials said the CM prioritizes law and order, national security, and social harmony, and will not tolerate any form of illegal activity. As part of the plan, temporary detention centres will be set up in each district to house and verify the citizenship of foreign nationals. Those found to be living in the state illegally will be deported to their countries of origin. The move comes as the state government seeks to strengthen border security, particularly along the open border with Nepal. Critics, however, have questioned the effectiveness of the measure, with Congress leader Ajay Rai accusing the government of 'creating hype' rather than addressing the issue of infiltration. The UP CM has promised to ensure that the necessary verification process is completed promptly, and those found to be living in the state illegally will face deportation.
