The MMRDA Ground in Mumbai is gearing up to host the fourth edition of the Global Esports Games, a major milestone for the Global Esports Federation (GEF). The tournament, featuring 19 international teams, will take place on Friday and Saturday, with the silver trophy at the center of the main hall.
According to Paul Foster, president and CEO of GEF, India is a top priority for the organization, with a 10-year partnership aimed at developing the esports ecosystem in the country. The partnership will cover grassroots, schools, universities, regions, states, national, and global competitions.
Foster highlighted India's rich history in sports and technology, making it a natural hub for esports. He noted that the advancement in telecommunication services has contributed to the growth of mobile gaming, allowing more people to be connected through gaming.
The tournament in Mumbai will feature only two game titles: Dota 2 and Clash Royale. After the event, the GEF will gather feedback to improve the competition and aim to make Mumbai a regular stop on the annual esports map.
