Running back Kenneth Walker III has joined the Kansas City Chiefs in a sensational free agency move. The three-year, $45 million deal makes Walker the highest-paid free agent running back in NFL history.
Walker's rise from a relatively unknown figure to winning the Super Bowl with the Seahawks and joining the Chiefs is part of a carefully curated career path. ESPN Analyst Peter Schrager believes changing agents mid-season was pivotal to Walker's success.
Walker played three games in the 2025-26 NFL playoffs after firing his agent, rushing for 313 yards and four touchdowns on 65 carries while adding 104 receiving yards. He capped it with 135 rushing yards at the Super Bowl, earning MVP honors.
The news of Walker joining the Chiefs comes on the back of another positive development. Star tight end Travis Kelce will return to the Chiefs for another season, despite rumors of retirement. Kelce has reportedly chosen to stay at Kansas City to team up with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and running back Kenneth Walker III.
