Lucknow: Tanish Nagar, an 18-year-old wushu sensation from Uttar Pradesh, is set to make his mark at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. With a string of impressive performances at the national and international levels, Nagar has emerged as one of India's brightest young stars in wushu.

Specialising in the Sanda (combat) discipline in the 56kg category, Nagar has won numerous gold and bronze medals at the World Junior Wushu Championships and national junior circuits. His journey reflects steady progression, disciplined training, and a flair for performing under pressure.

UP Wushu association's secretary, Manish Kakkar, believes that Nagar has a good chance of making it to the Indian squad for the Asian Games. 'He has been our biggest hope this time and his continued success at the international level is a big plus for him,' Kakkar said.

Nagar's impressive track record includes a gold at the Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship in Kolkata in 2019, followed by junior national golds in 2021, 2022, and 2024. He has also won international medals at the Batumi International Tournament in Georgia, the 8th Junior World Wushu Championships in Indonesia, and the 10th Asian Junior Wushu Championships in Macau.

With his technical repertoire and experience across different formats, Nagar is well-positioned to become a mainstay of India's wushu contingent and a genuine medal prospect at the Asian Games this year.
