The French Open women's singles final will feature an unexpected matchup between 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva and 24-year-old Maja Chwalinska.
Andreeva, the Russian world No.8, has taken her chances to reach a first Grand Slam final since making her professional debut at 14.
Standing in her way is the unheralded Chwalinska, who has won nine matches on the trot and become only the second qualifier in the Open Era to reach a singles final at a Major.
Chwalinska, who has overcome depression and a four-month hiatus from the tour, has played a marathon tournament, dropping just one set in nine matches.
Andreeva, who has crafted a heavy-hitting baseline game with her coach Conchita Martinez, is looking to bounce back from a quarter-final loss to Lois Boisson last year.
The two players will face off in a title clash that may be just the most fitting final at this French Open.
