Actor Mario Rodriguez has filed a $77 million lawsuit against Tyler Perry, alleging a pattern of unwanted sexual advances that span multiple years and settings. The complaint, filed in a California state court, also accuses Perry of sexual battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Rodriguez, who starred in Perry's 2016 film Boo! A Madea Halloween, claims that Perry used his influence in Hollywood to gain sexual favors. The lawsuit alleges that Perry's misconduct began in 2014, when a gym trainer at Equinox in Los Angeles introduced Rodriguez to Perry, who allegedly expressed interest in having Rodriguez audition for his film. According to the complaint, Rodriguez was invited to Perry's home after being cast in the film, where he claims Perry made unwanted advances, including grabbing him improperly while watching a movie. The lawsuit details several instances between 2016 and 2019 in which Perry allegedly made unwanted advances, including trying to unbuckle Rodriguez's pants and placing his hand on Rodriguez's genitals. Rodriguez asserts that he resisted every advance, but ultimately decided to file suit after learning of similar allegations by another actor, Derek Dixon, who filed a separate lawsuit against Perry earlier this year. Dixon alleged sexual harassment and assault on the sets of Perry's TV productions, The Oval and Ruthless. Rodriguez has also named Lionsgate in the lawsuit, accusing the studio of continuing to fund projects despite being aware of Perry's misconduct. Perry's lawyer has denied the allegations, and Lionsgate has not issued a public response to requests for comment. This lawsuit marks the second against Perry, who has been accused of using his power in Hollywood to exploit actors for personal gain. The allegations have sparked widespread outrage and calls for greater accountability in the entertainment industry.
