Alan Jackson Withdraws from Nick Reiner's Murder Case at Arraignment, Citing 'No Choice but to Withdraw'
Attorney Alan Jackson abruptly steps down from Nick Reiner's defense in the murder case of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner
Celebrity lawyer Alan Jackson surprised the court by withdrawing from representing Nick Reiner in the high-profile murder case of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The judge granted Jackson's request, allowing a public defender to take over the case and delaying the formal arraignment until February 23.
Jackson, known for defending celebrities like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, represented Nick Reiner in the murder of his parents, who were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. Nick Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder and is expected to enter a plea.
Despite his withdrawal, Jackson maintained that his team had thoroughly investigated the case and found Nick Reiner not guilty of murder. However, he was unable to disclose the reason for his withdrawal due to moral and legal grounds.
The Los Angeles County Public Defender's office has taken over the case, with Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene representing Nick Reiner. Greene met with Reiner for a brief conversation on Wednesday morning before the hearing.
The case has drawn significant attention, with Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman declaring that Reiner would be charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The maximum punishment for these charges is life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty, although the prosecution has not yet decided to pursue the death penalty.
As the case unfolds, Jackson warned the public against 'rushing to judgment,' citing the complexity and seriousness of the issues involved. The next court date is set for February 23, almost seven weeks after the original arraignment.
